How to Wet Sand a Stainless Steel Sink
- 1). Fold a piece of sandpaper over the rubber sanding block. Start with 1000-grit sandpaper first.
- 2). Turn the faucet on. Direct the water flow over the damaged area.
- 3). Sand lightly, in the direction of the grain (the existing brush marks) for 30 seconds. Keep the area wet as you work.
- 4). Lift the sanding block. Check your progress and the condition of the surrounding metal surface. If the scratch shows no sign of improvement and the surrounding metal surface is undamaged, switch to 600-grit sandpaper until the scratch diminishes or the surrounding surface shows signs of wear.
- 5). Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the scratch is barely visible.
- 6). Polish the scratched area with an abrasive cleaner applied with a dishcloth. Follow the direction of the grain when polishing. Stop when the scratch is removed. Rinse the sink to remove any remaining abrasive material.
