When building a fence for horses around your pasture you will need several fence parts to complete the project.
Of course you know that you are going to need the actual wire to create the panels to form the enclosure, but there are other fence parts for you to consider as well.
You cannot create a fence for horses without first putting posts into the ground to attach the wire to.
The type of posts that you use will determine the type of wire that can be used for your enclosure.
The fasteners used to secure the wire to the posts will depend on the wire and the post.
Some wire varieties will allow for the use of more than one type of fastener.
In that case personal preference will help you choose the one you will use.
If you plan on stringing barber wire around your pasture to keep your animals in place you will likely establish your perimeter using wooden posts.
The barbed wire attaches to the wooden posts with fencing staples.
The fencing staples are placed over the strand of barbed wire and then hammered into the post to secure the wire.
This is probably the most common type of pasture fence.
If you plan on having electric wire on your perimeter you can use wooden posts, but you will have to place connectors on the posts for the wire to run through.
You do not just hammer the electric powered wire onto the post like barbed wire.
If you are using the type of fencing that is used for deer fencing then you will be using steel posts.
Deer fencing is put into place more frequently to keep deer out of an area than it is to keep them in.
These animals can destroy a garden in a short period of time, and they can also do a lot of damage to fruit trees.
Many farmers put the enclosures around their crops to keep the animals from eating all of their proceeds.
The same materials that are used to make cyclone enclosures around school yards, private residences, and prison yards, are used to keep these wild goats out of gardens.
The enclosures to keep the deer out must be taller than the ones designed to keep the horses and mules in.
You can build a completely wooden enclosure for these animals.
You do not have to build the structure extremely high and most of these types of animals do not push against the fencing like cows will do.
Goats are bad to stick their heads between wires to reach the other side and horses have been known to do the same.
There are metal posts known as t-posts that are excellent for stringing rolled wire on.
These posts can also be used with the popular cattle panels that are preformed and easily put into place.
You will use a special clip to clip the wire to the t-post.
You are going to need a gate on the enclosure that is large enough to drive a truck and trailer through.
You may also want to install a smaller gate for the times you want to enter the pasture and do not want to open the large gate.
