From the Artist: At first glance I was sorely tempted to give this month’s assignment a pass, but decided to give it a go anyway, and it turned out to be quite fun. I wanted the characters in this story to be quirky and amusing, and chose pages 14, 16 and 21.

For this particular project I also did some rough sketches for pages 26 and 30 but there was just not enough time to complete these last two illustrations -– comes of being a chronic procrastinator I'm afraid –- in addition to which this proved to be a surprisingly difficult and challenging exercise.

I have come to the conclusion that illustrating books for children requires a high degree of expertise and imagination, as I discovered to my cost!

From the Painting Guide: I love your quirky characters, and think they are delightfully imaginative. Reproducing the same characters in different setting and scenes is a time-consuming challenge. It's quite different to producing a one-off painting, which is part of the reason why this month's project wanted two paintings to be submitted.
