I guarantee that you will take special delight in working this adorable back to school  needlepoint project. In fact, you may want to work several variations of the needlepoint design because it can be finished so quickly—in just a few hours. It’s so addictive that you may be somewhat bereft and experience a little regret at having quickly finished something you enjoyed stitching so much.

Use a variety of stitches, including basic tent and continental. One way to easily work the design is to stitch basketweave for the entire chalkboard motif with a blend of purple colored threads, and then superimpose the numbers and math signs in white or silver using French Knots (for the very ambitious stitcher), the chain stitch (or another stitch that has a pointed start and blunt end) or surface couching needlepoint technique.

Watch your tension as you work. Stitches that are too loose or too tight can cause difficulties and will need to be pulled out if you want the completed needlepoint to look its best.
