How to Grow Delmar Grass
- 1). Plant Delmar grass during moderate weather conditions. It is best to allow the grass to establish a deep root system before it is introduced to extreme weather.
- 2). Lay Delmar grass sod in a bricklike pattern over bare moist soil. Fit the edges together tightly. Delmar grass is also grown using plugs and sprigs.
- 3). Provide lots of short grass waterings throughout the day for the first 10 days. Allow the Delmar grass proper time to establish a root system. Cut back the watering to once a day for another 7 days, then 3 days a week for 4 weeks. Eventually your lawn will be on a water as needed basis.
- 4). Refrain from mowing the lawn until at least 2 weeks after laying the sod, giving the sod time to adhere itself to the soil.
- 5). Apply a slow release nitrogen fertilizer 2 weeks after spring growth. Choose a fertilizer low in phosphorus, but high in potassium.
