• The Colorado Mental Health Practice Act (MHPA) mandates that regulatory boards exist for licensing and disciplining professionals in the mental health field, such as psychologists, family therapists and social workers. Specifically, the legislation protects residents from unauthorized, unqualified and improper application of mental health care.
  
  

Innovation

• In May 2010, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) reported that an innovative Colorado law will take full effect in 2014. The legislation, named the Health Care Affordability Act (HCAA), will help nearly 70,000 lower-income residents receive health insurance as well as compensate hospitals for services rendered to those with minimal resources.

• The Health Law Section Committee of the Colorado Bar Association provides an educational resource for health law professionals who practice in Colorado.
