President or Dictator Obama

The Defense of Marriage Act is a federal law that was passed on September 21, 1996. This law, also known as DOMA, defines marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman. The bill was passed by Congress by a vote of 85-14 in the Senate and a vote of 342-67 in the House of Representatives, and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996. This is now a federal law. This has been on the ballot many many times and many many times the people have voted to uphold this law.

Enter President Obama, who says his administration will refuse to defend the constitutionality of the DOMA act. He believes it is unconstitutional, and says it, "contains numerous expressions reflecting moral disapproval of gays and lesbians and their intimate and family relationships - precisely the kind of stereotype-based thinking and animus the (Constitution's) Equal Protection Clause is designed to guard against." Up until this point, the Justice Department had always defended the DOMA in court, as it should do with any federal law.

I didn't know it was the president's job to go through laws that were already on the books and decide which ones he thinks are constitutional and which ones he thinks aren't. President Obama has publicly declared his position on gay marriages is, "constantly evolving".

There are currently two federal courts that are hearing two separate lawsuits that are targeting the Defense of Marriage Act. These cases will clearly be affected by this news from the Obama administration.
More and more, President Obama is sounding more like Dictator Obama. He quickly pushed a health care bill down America's throat, when the majority of Americans didn't want it. This health care bill is being challenged as unconstitutional in our courts as we speak. But I guess it doesn't matter what the people want, it only matters what President Obama wants and what he thinks is right or wrong, and what he thinks is constitutional or not.

I wonder what would have happened if President Bush would have declared abortion as unconstitutional? I wonder how that would have gone?

Our government officials are in office because we put them there. It's our money that they spend and it's our government that they uphold, a government for the people and by the people. They work for us, not the other way around.

When a President, or any other elected government official, starts to put forth his agenda and his ways over what the people want, that's a dictatorship. We are seeing and hearing plenty about dictators from what is going on in the Middle East right now.

President Obama or Dictator Obama? We have two more years to decide.
