How to End Child Support in Florida When Parents Reunite and Remarry
- 1). Meet the requirements to request a child-support modification. Florida child support cases are entitled to a review every three years. If there is a change in circumstances, you can request a review sooner. When a couple reunites, it affects the household income and living arrangements for the child. To be eligible for a review, you must either have a court order to pay child support or receive support. Your order will also need to be enforced by Florida Department of Revenue, Child Support Enforcement Program. If you are not utilizing child support enforcement services, apply for service through the Florida Department of Revenue website.
- 2). Report the change if you receive public assistance. To receive benefits in Florida, one requirement is to cooperate with child-support enforcement. You will need to report any changes in your household living situation within 10 days. Contact the Florida Department of Children and Families.
- 3). Visit the child support section of the Florida Department of Revenue website to request a case review. Click the link entitled "Child Support Order Review." You will need to answer the qualification questions to determine eligibility. The questions include whether you are ordered to pay child support or receive support, if the Florida Department of Revenue is enforcing your case, time of last review and if there was a change in household circumstances.
- 4). Download the review request form. Your answers to the questions will determine your eligibility for review. If your case can be reviewed, the "Review Request Form" link will be provided.
- 5). Fill out the form by providing personal information. You will need to provide the case number, county where the order was entered, name, last four digits of your social security number and mailing address. You will need to state the reason for the request. Briefly explain that you and the other parent have reunited or remarried. Include the date you began living together. Check the "review my case" box.
- 6). Print the request form you completed and sign it. Mail the form to your local child-support enforcement agency. Once your request is received, it will be reviewed to determine if your case can be terminated. The decision will be mailed to you. If your child support can be ended, a hearing will be scheduled to terminate child support.
