- Take a news fast - Watching doom and gloom of the nightly news is a great way to feed insomnia.
Your sub-conscious mind takes in everything as if it was happening in real time to you.
But you want to stop insomnia.
you want a good night sleep.
So the late night dramas and the news have to go.
In fact try going on a news fast for a week.
I promise you that nothing important will happen without you finding out.
Somebody will tell you the important stuff.
You do not need to know all of the murders and mayhem that is happening.
All it will do is help keep you up at night. - During the day- Practice relaxation exercises, breathing techniques.
The more you practice relaxation during the day the easier it will be to relax at bedtime.
You have to train your body and your mind to relax, chances are it has forgotten. - Have a nightly ritual - Have a wind down time.
Time where you listen to music, take a relaxing bath or shower, play with the kids or anything else you might find relaxing.
Try doing this at least an hour before you go to bed. - Keep a notebook by your bed- Actually two would be great! In one notebook jot down anything you may be thinking about.
things you need to do, things you should have done, concerns you may have about your job, your family, your finances or anything that is occupying your thoughts.
When you are finished writing down everything you can think of close the book and tell yourself, "I am closing the book on these things for the night since there is nothing I can do about any of this right now.
" Now in the other notebook write down five things that you are grateful for that happened that day.
This will begin to focus your mind on what is good in your life.
paving the way for a restful slumber.
