There are many causes of sleep disorders today and anyone that suffers from chronic and consistent insomnia would do well to consider if any of these are applicable in their own case.
A consistent lack of sleep doesn't just feel bad, it's very bad for one's health.
Going without sleep regularly or having poor quality sleep can lead to headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, poor blood circulation, heart disease, brain damage, lack of concentration, drowsiness, fatigue, slow metabolism, and has been associated with certain forms of cancer and even premature death.
Understanding the causes of sleep disorders is very important because in order to fix the problem it's necessary to understand what has caused that problem in the first place.
Very often the causes of sleep disorders are brought on by the person himself or herself.
A poor sleep environment can cause physical pain and discomfort and this makes it very difficult to get to sleep and to stay asleep.
You might not consider a lumpy mattress and stuffy or overly warm room as being actual causes of sleep disorders but you'd be surprised how often these things affect a person's quality of sleep.
Sometimes physical pain is also caused by poor posture throughout the day or from overusing the back and straining muscles.
Picking up the children or lugging heavy groceries and sporting goods can cause a lot of stress on the back muscles and they may lock up and cause pain at night.
These too may not seem like serious causes of sleep disorders but when the body is in pain it's very difficult to fall asleep and to stay asleep as well.
One's diet and exercise level can also be causes of sleep disorders.
Many people suffer from acid reflux, when the stomach acids bubble over the top of the stomach and travel back up the esophagus which in turn causes severe heartburn and pain in the midsection.
This can happen on its own for no reason but many cases are caused by poor diet and by eating very heavy meals which overwhelm the stomach and cause this spillage of stomach acids.
This part of the causes of sleep disorders because when a person is flat on his or her back, the acids are more likely to spill over the top of the stomach.
Eating a healthier diet and being careful of what one eats when it gets closer to bedtime is always recommended in these cases.
Increased physical activity will also mean an increased metabolism which in turn causes the body to be tired at night.
Being inactive means being lethargic and not the body just won't be tired after a day of inactivity.
Physical inactivity is another one of those causes of sleep disorders that many people dismiss or refuse to acknowledge but being more active during the day can definitely help you to sleep at night.
