Arrowhead Hunting in Texas
- Arrowhead collecting is generally not permitted on federal or state lands in Texas, to protect these areas from damage. Many state parks and historic sites have museums and educational displays of artifacts; arrowhead collectors can view these exhibits to see the variety of objects that may be found.
- Collecting arrowheads on private land is allowed with landowner permission. Visitors may not be able to gain access to private land, but there are businesses that provide access and assistance in finding arrowheads for a fee. These pay locations are useful for new arrowhead hunters to learn about the hobby.
- Arrowhead hunters should document their finds as reference for future generations. At some point, an amateur archaeologist may come across something of significance. If a significant find is located, it should not be moved; the object's location should be noted and reported to the landowner. The landowner should be encouraged to report the object to the Texas Historical Society.
