How to Connect 12 Volt Batteries to Get 72 Volts Out
- 1). Loosen the retaining nut for each battery cable terminal connector.
- 2). Place one end of the first battery cable on the negative post of the first battery. Place the other end on the positive post of the second battery. Repeat this step with each subsequent battery cable, electrically connecting the negative poles on batteries 1-5 with the positive poles on batteries 2-6. Carefully tighten each battery cable retaining nut so that the terminal connector snugly holds the battery post.
- 3). Turn on the meter, and set the scale to "Volts DC." Attach the positive (red) meter probe to the positive battery pole on the first battery. Attach the negative (black) meter probe to the negative battery pole on the sixth battery. The voltage differential between these two points will be 72 Volts DC.
