How to Design Your Own Middle Earth Map
- 1). Take notes about the locations in the book. As you read, write down each new place name that you encounter.
- 2). Draw and write down different configurations for the locations on a piece of scrap paper. Don't worry about matching the map used in the front of the books, as there is no "correct" configuration for the places of Middle Earth. When you have a final set-up, transfer the locations onto the white drawing paper.
- 3). Draw icons or decorations on the map to indicate the significance of each location. If you don't enjoy drawing, use a collage technique to paste images onto your map.
- 4). Soak the tea bag. Rub the wet bag over both sides of the map paper.
- 5). Crumple the map into a ball while it's wet, and allow it to dry overnight. The paper will now have an antique look.
- 6). Apply a coating of cooking oil to both sides of the paper, using a paper towel. Allow to dry for 30 minutes before handling.
