How to Propagate Thai Plumeria From Seed
- 1). Fill a 3- to 4-inch deep seed flat to within 1/2 inch of its lip with a mixture of 2 parts seed-starting potting mix and 1 part horticultural grade sand by volume.
- 2). Place the filled seed flat on the tray.
- 3). Water the seed flat until water drips out of the drainage holes in the bottom and into the tray.
- 4). Hold each Thai plumeria seed by its brown wing. Plant the seed so that the seed is submerged and just the wing sticks out above the soil surface. Keep each seed at least 3 inches away from the sides of the planting flat and 3 inches away from neighboring seeds on all sides.
- 5). Place the seed flat and tray outdoors in a sheltered but sunny spot. If you have a porch or patio with a cement floor, this is ideal. The flooring absorbs and releases heat which will provide the seedlings with added warmth.
- 6). Water the seeds whenever the soil is dry to the touch.
- 7). Wait one to three weeks for the seeds to germinate. Keep the seedlings and the soil moist.
- 8). Remove the husk if it is still clinging to the germinated shoots after a few days. Moisten it with water from a spray bottle and carefully pull it off with tweezers.
- 9). Pot the seedlings up when they are 4 to 5 inches tall. Once potted up, you can begin fertilizing with half-strength liquid fertilizer every other week.
