Mini Horse Fly Protection

Fly repellant is always needed and fly sheets and masks can come in handy a lot.
One of my horse's skin breaks out really bad when the flies bit him and a fly sheet fixes it.
It keeps the bugs off of him while keeping him cool.
During the warmer months when the bugs are really bad, I put fly masks on all my horses every morning, this protects their eyes from the flies.
(Make sure you take the mask off EVERY night otherwise the mask will rub the hair off your horse's nose and it will grow back white) One of my horses' named Decker has really thin hair so the flies love to bite him and they leave bumps all over his chest so I use a sheet to keep his skin clean.
One thing to remember about fly sheets and masks is that if they aren't kept clean, they won't keep your horse clean.
Washing them is a necessity, not all the time, just when they start to look dirty or smell dirty.
If you don't use them often, washing them won't be a big deal.
If your horse wears one everyday, you are going to have to wash them more often.
The best way to keep the sheet clean is to brush your horse before putting the sheet on.
No one wants to put dirty clothes on and no one wants to put clean clothes on when your dirty.
Fly sheets come in about every color, shape, and size.
There are ones that can cover your horses body completely like armor, they can cover only their body, not the neck, or they can cover your horse's neck only if that's the only spot the flies bother.
This is a part of the tack that you should make sure to match so your mini horse doesn't look mismatched.
Fly masks also come in about every color, shape and size.
Masks can have the protected ears or without the ears, and some have an extension that comes down over their nose to keep the flies off, and some attach to a neck sheet providing a full body fly sheet.
If you don;t use fly sheets try to at least have a fly mask so when your horses eyes are watery and goopy from the flies you can protect them.
Flies are the worst in the horses eyes so make sure to keep them protected.
Your horse will thank you.
