Food

• One of the most common primary uses of longhorn cattle, or really any cattle, is food. Meat is a huge staple of the American diet, and the longhorn are just as tasty as their less rugged cousins that get served up at fast food chains and burger joints all over the country. While steakhouses might proudly display the meat, the longhorns can be served up in any number of beef varieties.
  
  

Leather

• Once the longhorn has been butchered, you're left with the bones, hooves and the skin. While the bones and hooves might be turned into gelatin or used for other purposes, the hide can be tanned and turned into leather. The leather, depending on preparation, might be used for coats, motorcycle gear, work gloves, welding protection or any of a hundred other products that you can make out of leather.
  
  

Breeding

• Longhorn cattle are considered to be something of a throwback. Unique to America, the longhorns evolved here and they're adapted to the American plains. As such, introducing these rugged genes back into the cattle gene pool can be a great way to stop the blood from getting "too thin," due to inbreeding and other selective breeding side effects you can have with any animal.
  
  

Money

• Longhorn cattle in America can be used as a great investment. Those who aren't interested in raising or butchering the cows might still act as brokers by buying and selling them to help increase their own portfolio. Like any other business or commodity, longhorns can be traded and sold by those who are willing to go through the research and to track the fluctuations in the cattle market.
