    • 1). Unfasten the gas tank cap and dump all the old fuel into an approved fuel canister. Press the primer bulb to purge any gasoline still in the system. Start the trimmer, if you can, and let it run until it burns off the last of the fuel in the carburetor.

    • 2). Unscrew the air filter's cover and lift the filter out of the box. Loosen the two mounting bolts holding the box to the carburetor. Lift off the box to access the carburetor.

    • 3). Identify the main fuel line. This line runs from the carburetor and connects to the fuel filter inside the tank. Unhook this line from the nozzle on the carburetor using your fingers. Grab the fuel filter inside the fuel tank with the metal hook and bring it up to the opening.

    • 4). Pull the fuel filter off the end of the fuel line with the pliers. Pull the fuel hose from the tank with the pliers. Cut 7 to 8 inches off the new fuel line. Diagonally cut one end of the new fuel line to add in, pushing it through the tank. Locate the main fuel line's hole beside the carburetor.

    • 5). Push the diagonal end of the line into the fuel tank. Push the line through until you can reach in and grab it with the metal hook. Bring the fuel line to the opening, slice off the angled end and push the new fuel filter's tip straight into the fuel line.

    • 6). Fit the end of the new fuel line to the same valve on the carburetor from which you removed it. Refit the air filter box on top and tighten both mounting screws. Fit the foam pad and air filter cover.
