How to Make a Bend With Tape
- 1). Pull out the amount of tape you need to cover the corner. Leave at least 1 inch on either side of the bend to ensure the tape adheres completely. You can use your best estimate in the amount of tape you need; extra tape is fine for this application.
- 2). Cut the tape using a pair of scissors. To avoid getting your scissors sticky from the tape's adhesive, you can cut a small slit and then tear the rest of the tape using your hands.
- 3). Lay the tape over the bend you wish to cover. Press the tape lightly in the areas where it is touching the bend. Some bends, such as corners, may only have a small portion of the tape touching at the bend. This is normal.
- 4). Cut small slices into the tape to help the tape lay flat around the corner. The types of cuts depend on the degree of the bend and if you need to cover above or below the bend. For rounded corners, you need to cut two small slits about 1/4 inch deep above and below the bend. The sharper the bend, the more small cuts you can place into the tape. Cuts should be placed only in the area around the bend and not the flat surface near the bend.
- 5). Press the tape firmly around the bend. Do this slowly and one small section at a time to ensure there is a flat finish and no bubbles in the tape. If necessary, add additional small slits to the tape to help it lay nicely against the bend.
