How to Take Apart Pool Motors
- 1). Shut off all electric power to the pump and motor at the breaker. Unfasten the large bolts placed around the housing of the pump, using a wrench. Pull the housing section away from the rest of the pump and motor.
- 2). Clamp a wrench or pliers to the motor's shaft. Hold the shaft with the wrench or pliers and unscrew the impeller sitting on the shaft. Pull the impeller off the shaft.
- 3). Loosen the seal assembly on the back of the shaft with a flat-head screwdriver. Slide the small seal assembly off the back of the motor shaft. Lubricate the shaft with water if the seal does not move easily over the shaft.
- 4). Unscrew the screws holding the motor shaft armature to the motor. Pull the armature away from the motor casing.
