The Fear to Have A Mother-in-Law

Do you know one fear most newly-wed couples have? It is the fear of having a relationship with their mother-in-law. I also shared this same fear. Although I grew up talking to my elders like they were just a friend and most of my older friends are comfortable with me and I to them, but I felt different with having a mother-in-law.

For the next few months of my marriage, I felt that they were even against me, thinking that I took their only son from them. However, I also need to change my perspective if I want to have a good relationship with them. One of the fears I felt was that I feared communicating to her. I always thought that we do not have anything in common and probably they were just being civil because we share the same interest and love and that is her son and my husband.

Having a good communication with my mother-in-law requires giving an effort in creating a relationship with her. However, if conflict arises it is also necessary that my husband do not take sides. It is still her mother and I am his wife. To make it simple, his mother may feel betrayed if she doesn't take her side, but I would also feel ignored if he will not take mine. He, staying neutral is much better than taking any sides.

When conflict do arises, it is also better to see it on the other side's perspective. We should always think about how the others feel and probably we could lessen the pain we are also feeling. It would be better to spend some great quality time together and not just spend time during special occasion. Spending time with our mother-in-law also gives way to a great harmonious relationship. You can go shopping with her and purchase mother of the bride jewelry, Swarovski bridal earrings, drink coffee at your favorite coffee shop, and even watch a movie that both of you will enjoy. Any activity that will create a relationship is better just to make the two of you bond is always a necessity.
