Vaginal Yeast Infection. Relax, It"s all part of life.
Vulvovaginal candidiasis, or vaginal yeast infection, is one of the most common causes of irritation in the vaginal area.
It is very common for the vagina to contain the Candida organism, or yeast (a fungus), and is nothing normally to be concerned about. Our bodies are full of microorganisms that coexist with our 'good' bacteria. Our immune system keeps them in line, and everything plays nicely together. During their lifetime, around 75% of women, will experience at least one episode of a yeast infection. Approximately 42% will have two or more to contend with.
The presence of the Candida, within the vagina, is only a problem if it multiplies into a yeast overgrowth. For when this situation occurs, the growth can be explosive.
Symptoms can include, but are not confined to: burning sensation while peeing, unusual vaginal redness/swelling/rash, discomfort or pain during sex, vaginal irritation or unusual watery/'cottage cheese' looking discharge. Sometimes women are only alerted to their condition, after their sexual partner reports having developed infection.
Careful analysis has uncovered the various circumstances which can contribute to the increased risk of infection for women, including: malfunction of the body's immune system, becoming pregnant, antibiotics, the use of an ablution douche, the continual use of feminine hygiene sprays, topical steroid treatments or diabetes mellitus.
We usually associate using antobiotics to be the cure for most problems. Yet this is not so in this instance. Due to the fact that antibiotics also eliminate the good bacteria in our system. The very organisms upon which we rely to fight infections such as this.
While this infection stays within the confines of the vagina, things are not as problematic as they could be. Sounds a bit counter-intuitive doesn't it? Let's face it, as you don't really want the little beggers there at all. But Systemic Candidiasis, where the infection moves throughout the body, is not a situation we wish the condition to escalate to. As this can lead to the infection making a cycle tour vacation around our body, to the moist areas which this organism prefers. These regions can include: the liver, the lungs, the bronchials and surrounding tubes, brain, the sinus region, intestine and the colon.
Fortunately, there are many treatments available. So a speedy recovery is not far away.
Just like death and taxes, it's pretty inevitable that this situation will crop up at some time of another. When it does, just relax and take it in your stride. Now you know why and how, the matter of when it can be cured is just a short hop away.
See? It's not as bad as you first thought, now is it?
