Planning a diet for fatty liver patients has been an easier task because of the amount of information that is widely available to the people, especially to the patients. Fatty liver patients are those whose livers have excessive amounts of triglycerides that have invaded the liver cells. It has been shown by researchers that diets can actually help in reversing fatty liver.

While the amount of information about the diet for fatty liver patients has increased, there has been a lot of confusion as well as to what people should eat and what they should not eat. This articles tries to uncover these truths and myths.

#1: I cannot eat meat anymore. Truth or Myth?

Myth. In a fatty liver diet, patients are required to avoid red meat, but not entirely all kinds of meat. Patients can still consume white and lean meat such as skinless chicken, turkey, and fish. White and lean meat contain lower amounts of fat, and thus can still be processed by the liver. You can also try tofu.

#2: I should never use oils in cooking. Truth or Myth?

Myth. You can still use oils in cooking, but only those that are filled with heart-healthy oils such as vegetable oils, seed oils (such as flaxseed oil or sunflower oil), and olive oil. Avoid processed oils and oils that are filled with saturated fats.

#3: I should eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. Truth or Myth?

Truth. Vegetables and fruits, especially the fresh and raw ones, are good for the body and good for the liver. They do not overwork the liver and they are loaded with nutrients and vitamins that our entire body needs.

#4: I should avoid alcohol. Truth or Myth?

Truth. Alcohol overworks the liver because of its fat content. Try to avoid as well your intake of carbonated drinks, energy drinks, sodas, and other high fat drinks. Thee drinks are not helpful to your liver since they only add much more work for the liver to metabolize.

#5: I need to exercise regularly. Truth or Myth?

Truth. Even in losing weight, a diet will never be complete without proper and regular exercise. Thus, even a diet for fatty liver patients also needs regular exercise.
