Homemade Nontoxic Toilet Bowl Cleaners
- Make a mixture with 1/2 cup borax and 1 gallon warm water. Apply the solution with a sponge. This general cleaner will kill all unwanted microorganisms and disinfect the toilet bowl. Alternatively, sprinkle borax powder around the toilet bowl sides and leave it overnight. In the morning, use a bowl brush to scrub the surface. The borax will loosen the grime buildup by morning.
- Mix 2 parts of borax and with 1 part white vinegar. Flush the toilet bowl to make it wet. Sprinkle the mixture and let it stay for four hours. Scrub the toilet bowl with a hard bristled toilet brush and flush to rinse it.
- Mix 1/3 cup lemon juice and 2/3 cup of borax to make a paste. Apply this paste on the toilet bowl with a cleaning rag or a sponge. Allow the paste to sit on the bowl for two hours before scrubbing it off with a toilet brush. Flush the toilet to rinse the bowl.
- Sprinkle some baking soda in the toilet bowl and spray some vinegar. Allow the ingredients to sit for 30 minutes. Rub the toilet bowl with a toilet brush or scrubber. Vinegar contains acetic acid that has antiseptic properties that will kill germs, disinfect it and make it more hygienic to use while baking soda helps remove odors.
- Mix salt and baking soda in equal proportions and rub the dirty surface of the toilet bowl with a scouring pad or moist cloth. Add some fresh lemon juice to the mixture in order to clean difficult stains.
- Make a mixture by mixing 1/2 cup household ammonia, 1/2 cup washing soda and 1 gallon warm water. Mix all of these ingredients in a pail, wash the toilet bowl with the solution and rinse with clear water.
