There is nothing more satisfying than sitting down to a picnic meal with the family.
Somehow, the food tastes much better and everybody has a great time.
If you have a barbeque in your back yard then a picnic table is the perfect companion, and tables are easy to build yourself.
Just get a good set of plans, and even if you only have basic carpentry skills you will be able to build a great table far cheaper than the ones on sale in the stores.
There are all sorts of kids picnic tables you can build including patio picnic tables, octagonal tables and hexagonal tables in fact just about any shape or size you want.
I guess that I have spent a small fortune over the years buying different tables to use in our back yard.
They are fine to start with, but they just did not last the season and before I knew it, I was shelling out for a new one.
Mostly they were plastic and always seemed to have a permanent wobble.
I knew deep down that cheap tables were a false economy, but those fancy hardwood tables were costing a small fortune.
I struggled on with the cheap ones until one day I came across a set of plans on the internet.
I thought "hey, this does not look to difficult a project" and so I bought the plans.
Unfortunately, my family found out I had the plans and started nagging at me to build them a decent table.
The plans also had a list of all the materials that I would need, so I took the list to my local hardware store and priced up the materials.
What a surprise, I could build this table for far less than the ones they were selling.
I spoke to one of the staff and he helped me gather everything I needed and even recommended a good timber stain for my new table.
So I went home, armed with all the bits and pieces, and set to work.
It took me most of the day, but come the evening I was the proud owner of a newly built and stained picnic table.
My wife and children were really impressed and started planning an outdoor feast for the next day.
Well the next day came and we had a great time, and best of all I was really proud of my table.
