So you've become interested in deck construction, and want to build a deck? You have probably seen loads of other people's decks in their gardens, patios or anywhere around their property, and thought, "I want to build a deck.
" Well, you can.
Building a deck is great; it's a great outdoor living space, and it looks really nice.
Get some chairs and a table, and you have a real dining area for great summer days.
The problem, is that you have no idea where to even start.
Well if you want to build a deck, and you are looking for exact instructions on how to do so, this article is not for you.
This article is a first step to building your deck...
only a first step.
If you really want to get started then I suggest you read the article, take my advice, and then move on to more detailed instructions from wherever you can get them.
A good foundation is helpful when building a deck, both literally and figuratively.
Building a deck is not an easy task, and learning how to do so is far out of the scope of this article.
Once beginners get started on a project as difficult as the one ahead, one of their most obvious needs will be to ask questions.
The opportunity to ask questions is when you are buying the wood and the tools from your local hardware store.
They know a lot there, and they can really help you if you want to build a deck.
But to ask intelligent questions, you need some knowledge of the subject already, including knowledge of the terminology used to discuss the various aspects of it.
You need to be made aware of problems that await you in your initial foray into deck construction.
Once you become aware of the problems - and mull over some suggestions as to how to solve them - you'll be brimming with astute questions when you walk into the hardware store.
Speaking of the hardware store, that is where your next step is.
I urge you to go there as soon as you can, tell them you want to build a deck, and ask them exactly what tools you need and any other questions you might have.
Be sure to take along some sort of plan that you have made, a plan of your garden for example, and where you would like your deck to go.
Actual dimensions and sizes are a really good planning aid, too.
You have to know what size wood to buy, or if you are using tiles then you have to know what the size of the area is so you know how many tiles to buy.
I hope I have helped you with the initial understanding of what deck building entails, and if you are really serious, and really want to build a deck now, then go take the next step - off to the garden with a pen and paper - and then it's off to the hardware store.
