Goldfish Pond

• 1). Dig a bed for your pond. If you live in a very warm region, keep it out of direct sunlight. Avoid dramatic slopes. Goldfish require a body of water to be at least 18 inches deep; allow about 10 feet across. Remove any sharp objects from the ground that could jeopardize the liner. Add a cushioned layer for extra precaution. This could be made of paper, sand or soil.
  
  
• 2). Insert the PVC liner folded in the center of the pond; unfold it outwards. Smooth out the liner as you add water. You will have to be in the pond at this point so wear a bathing suit and water-shoes. Camouflage the perimeter of it with rocks or other landscaping.
  
  
• 3). Shovel in a layer of loamy top soil into the soil to provide an adequate base for your pond plants. Add pond plants; they should cover 60 percent of your pond's surface. Add a slow-release fertilizer.
  
  
• 4). Add a small, submersible pump to your pond. If you have a larger pond, it will eventually maintain homeostasis and balance algae on its own. Goldfish ponds with fewer than 200 gallons of water will require a filter be added to the pump.
  
  
• 5). Decholrinate the water with a store-bought solution. Add goldfish to their new home. You can have one goldfish for every cubic foot of water. Make sure there is always movement in to water to keep algae levels low.
