The Man the World Forgot
There are several reasons why a person is convicted wrongfully.
Through my research, I found these two things why an innocent person is convicted.
First wrongfully identified by an eyewitness.
Second authorities not doing their job.
Can you imagine if this happened to you.
The night is cold you are laying in bed.
The doors are pushed open.
You are dragged out of bed by two police officers.
Your face is pushed onto the cold floor.
You try to turn around to look for your wife.
Your nose hit's the floor.
Blood is gushing out of your nose.
You can hear her calling your name.
Your hands are cuffed and you are force to get up.
The officer behind you pushes you towards the door.
You turn to the left your two children are standing there crying.
Your two yr old is terrified and calling for you Daddy! Daddy! By now, you are scared.
You try to get loose to get to her.
An officer pushes you out of the house.
You are confused and scared.
In your mind, you keep repeating to yourself "I am Innocent".
You burst out yelling, "What did I do?" 15 years later the world has forgotten about you.
No one wants to take your case.
You are shuffled from one court to another.
Your wife has given up on you and married your best friend.
Your children are an outcast and hate you.
What do you do? When you are screaming at the top of your lungs, "I am Innocent!" In addition, no one hears you.
I can only imagine the innocent inmates who have been wrongly put in prison for crimes they did not commit.
Nothing can replace the pain an innocent inmate is going through.
No matter how much money a person is paid it cannot justify or satisfy the time lost and the relationships destroyed.
Wrongfully Identified There are several reasons why an eyewitness would wrongfully accuse someone.
It could be that they do not remember how the attacker looks that they just point out anyone.
Interrogation when they are forced to write a false statement by officials.
Alternatively, they did write a statement that the accuser was not the person who did it and for some reason was never brought up in court.
Alternatively, the evidence was disposed.
Authorities not Doing Their Job There are several reasons why authorities do not do their jobs or they just do not want to do their job.
Everyone wants to be a hero that they put the bad guy away.
They are lazy to do the footwork.
They get a lot of pressure from the victim's family members, and the media.
They want to get closure on the case and move on to another case.
It is very sad to discover how many lives have been executed because of the loopholes in our legal system.
Sometimes, we take life for granted not realizing what if it happen me or someone I love? What if I were put in jail for something I did not do? If I were in the wrong place or because I look like the person who did the crime? Sometimes we think that things like this only happens in the movies.
That it will never happen.
This article is to help us as individuals and as a society realize the innocent lives that has been executed and their families.
What can we do today to make a difference.
I pray for the innocent men, women and their families that they may have peace.
For the innocent, may God forever hold you in his arms.
