We are all familiar with the two types of swimming pools, the traditional swimming pool is built beneath the ground and that takes possibly weeks to construct and is completed by licensed contractors, and the other type of pool is usually a do it yourself family project that can usually be completely built within a few hours.
It is called the above the ground pool.
In the above the ground pools, the interior walls are smooth and need no further attention.
In the traditional styles however, the walls are rough and need to be finished with a hardy but long lasting and attractive lining.
The pool liner solves this problem.
Traditionally, the walls and floor would be finished by applying tiles and waterproof grout.
A new alternative to that process is now available, and involves applying a vinyl liner that has become far more popular among homeowners.
The vinyl envelope can be ordered custom made or can be bought in the standard pool sizes through any pool supply store.
To apply the vinyl pool liner, the liner is placed in the pool and then slowly filled with water.
At the same time, and using a specific type of vacuum, the liner is stretched to the sides of the pool to fit.
There is some prep work that is done before this process can be completed; the process of fitting the liner however, is usually completed within a day.
The new process of lining the pool has many advantages over the older technique of tiling.
The vinyl liner is available in designs that mimic real tiles and once in place they cannot be distinguished from the traditional tiles.
Yet another advantage of using the new vinyl liner is that the installation process is fast and simply done, but also, the vinyl liner can be removed easily if necessary.
The old tile process, once put in place, could not be removed without major deconstruction and repair.
This is a significant difference between the two forms of pool lining because the lining systems sometimes need to be repaired and replaced and this process could be quite expensive if tiles have to be ripped up and the replaced.
A vinyl pool liner has yet another advantage; they can be fitted into the above the ground pools also, thus giving them a somewhat upgraded look.
The type used in the above the ground pool, is referred to as an overlap system, where as the one use in the below the ground pool is called a beaded system.
In both types of vinyl liners, a considerable variety of patterns and styles exist.
These liners improve the look, longevity and the feel of the pool's interior.
The new vinyl pool liner is a welcome addition to any pool given its many advantages over the old traditional liners.
In the design, the grout lines themselves look remarkably authentic and will never deteriorate as with the traditional tile linings.
