Brief History:
Summer 2013 was a busy one for the six-week trial-run. Along with Kris, a possible new daytime talk show hosted by Kris Kris Jenner, audiences in select cities were treated to The Real, a talk show fashioned after hits like The View and The Talk, featuring an all African-American and Asian-American panel.
The show is hosted by Adrienne Bailon, Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housely.
The talk show trail run is becoming more and more common among television broadcasters who want to get a sense of how popular a talk show will be before they give it a full commitment. Plus, the trail-run - with real ratings and a large sample audience - helps the production company sell the show in syndication.
Telepictures Productions, behind the likes of Anderson Live, Dr. Drew's Lifechangers, and Lopez Tonight, produced the program. It aired for six-weeks on Fox-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Phoenix, Houston and Tampa.
Ratings will decide the fate of The Real and whether it gets a full-order for national syndication in 2014.
The 2014 is already filling up fast, too. Beyond the possibility of a Kris Jenner-led talk shows, new programs from Meredith Vieira and Marie Osmond will debut as well.
Good news for The Real is that ratings were strong (stronger than Kris by most accounts) and is likely to get at least a Season 1 in 2014. It's also an indication that the power of the panel talk show continues to grow.
Historic co-hosts
