Part-Time People or Full-Time Professionals
Part-Time People or Full-Time Professionals, And Your Thoughts Are What?
Let's consider a NO-BRAINER decision, if you needed a brain surgery of any kind large or small, I can assure you that you would not go with the part-time surgeon. This is something that would never even cross your mind, your health is your physical being and in this case, the heart is what keeps it all in perspective.
When something is extremely important to you or your family, most people will do what-ever it takes to assure themselves of a positive and beneficial outcome. Think about it folks, buying a new home or selling your existing home for most people will be largest monetary consideration up to that point in their lives. Would you agree with me up to this point? Now Let's continue because before we're finished, there are going to be a few who do not agree, I say this because we being Professional Realtors see it happen on a regular basis.
O.K. here we go, imagine for a minute, your Seller "A" and you find out your being transferred out of state. After you break the news to the family, all the crying and complaining stops, you get serious. I can't afford two mortgages so we need to get this thing sold quick. Hey, I know, I was checking out at the drug store the other day and he mentioned that he was also a realtor and gave me his card. I think I put it in the ashtray, I'll get it and give him a call, he seemed like a great guy and I'm sure he could help us out and probably at a discounted price being part-time.
Get serious here, we're talking about thousands and thousands of dollars, and people want to scrimp. Let me stop and say, I have nothing personal against people who are part-time real estate agents as a whole but generally speaking there are many reasons that you would not want this type of agent to represent you in either the sale of your home or representing you when purchasing another home.
Listing a home and marketing a home are two completely different concepts. Slam a sign in the yard, sign a couple papers and you've just listed your home. This can absolutely be done by a part-time agent, but when it comes to marketing that same home is where you truly want a professional agent in your corner. Part-time agents certainly do not have the endless hours of time to create the professional advertising, mass email campaigns, put together an effective internet presence (86% of home buyers begin their search on the web) thru personal websites, company websites, real estate blogs, social networking, keep up with the daily mortgage changes, up to date market analysis and market conditions, attend realtor functions promoting your home, continuing education classes, effective prospecting continuously in an effort to help you attain that goal of selling your home for the most amount, in less time and with the least amount of hassle.
One last point to consider. Why are their part-time realtors? Just a few reasons come to mind:
1. Retired, bored and want something to make them look important to their friends.
2. Spouse makes plenty of money, looking for something to take up time between hobbies.
3. Would like to be full time but hasn't enough reserve cash to sustain the enormous expense required to be successful
4. Was full time for awhile and just couldn't create enough income to continue without additional monetary support
5. Not willing to commit what it takes to provide great customer service
6. Full time job only leaves enough free time to piddle
Without pushing anymore buttons which I'm sure I have, I'll leave you with this one last thought.
"Being passionate about ones profession is the first step to long term success and happiness"
Look forward to hearing from you,
Doug
