Handmade Stacking Rings
- Stacking rings of wood will stand the test of time and baby drool alike. Make rings from a 2- -by-4 inch piece of wood, carving the piece into 5 separate blocks. Draw the outline of the ring as well as the opening with a pencil on the piece. Sand the edges of the square down to be a rounded ring then cut the center out with a saw. Sand the edges of the center to be smooth, then paint the rings different colors with BPA-free non toxic paint.
- Make fabric stacking rings in contrasting bright printed fabrics for a visually stimulating toy for baby. Cut circles from pieces of fabric, and cut out a circle from the center of each. Sew the inside of the circles together, then sew half of the outside of the circle. Stuff the ring with batting or stuffing, and sew the remainder of the circle together.
- Create over sized stacking rings from tubes or fabric for a bigger than life play time. Create a big platform by gluing the flat end a broom stick to a piece of wood. Get a variety of colored and printed tubes in different shapes and sizes. Throw the tubes over the top of the stick and play.
- Add interesting details to a plain store-bought set or stacking rings. Glue pieces of ribbon onto the rings, some extending beyond the edges of the rings. Cover some tings with interesting fabrics, like fur, corduroy and layers of tulle. Glue small stuffed animals to the top ring, for some variety. Choose add-ons in contrasting colors to the rings themselves for maximum visual stimulation.
