Understanding Pregnancy Fatigue
So the stick turned blue, made a plus sign or showed up double pink lines, whatever the case you are pregnant and thrilled.
You and the Daddy to be are immediately dreaming of how the little one will look, what to name the child and how to decorate the nursery.
Then the reality of pregnancy sneaks in.
If you are one of the lucky ones who can avoid morning sickness, the first symptom to have a major impact on your life will probably be the fatigue associated with the first trimester.
This is not "oh I had a late night" kind of tired, it is more like mind-numbing, why-was-I-walking-this-direction, pure exhaustion.
You haven't changed your schedule but it is seven thirty and you can't keep your eyes open, much less attempt to accomplish anything that requires thought.
This symptom is sometimes a difficult one for Dad to wrap his head around and one of the first to affect his life.
His previously active, energetic and sane wife has turned into a walking zombie overnight.
He might ask himself, how could this happen: she just found out she was pregnant, she still looks normal, she couldn't possibly be that tired.
Some dads have even been overheard commenting that she must just be milking this pregnancy thing, or worse faking! The truth is, it an extremely common, very real symptom of early pregnancy, that fortunately will fade some where around the second trimester.
If you want to help Dad understand why your new bedtime has been moved up three hours, just remind him gently that it takes a lot of energy to grow a tiny brain, lungs, kidneys, etc.
So when you need to, leave the the number to the local pizza place by the phone and head off to bed guilt free.
