Makeup Tricks for Disguising a Double Chin

    Contouring

    • Contouring is a makeup technique that uses a darker shade to minimize the appearance of a facial feature. To contour your double chin, first apply a foundation that matches your skin tone onto your face and blend it evenly. Select a foundation that is one to two shades darker than your normal one. A foundation that is too much darker than your skin tone will be too noticeable. Dab the darker foundation onto your chin and jaw line, then gently blend it into your skin with your fingers or a makeup sponge. Your chin should be slightly shadowed without an obvious foundation stripe.

    Bronzer

    • A powder bronzer can also help minimize areas because it's darker than an ordinarily brighter blush. If you're fair-skinned, choose a powder bronzer that has a slight rose undertone. Medium to dark skin tones can use a golden bronzer. After you use the foundation to contour, brush powder bronzer over your cheeks, then lightly brush it across your chin and jaw line as well. Using the same bronzer for your contouring that you used on your cheeks will help make the contouring look more seamless and natural. Brush a layer of translucent loose powder over your face, jaw line and chin to help set the contouring and prevent it from smearing. If you're in a hurry and don't have time to apply the extra foundation, you can contour with the bronzer only.

    Eye Makeup

    • Draw attention away from your chin by enhancing your eyes rather than your lips, which are closer to your problem area. For a natural look, apply a shimmery neutral-colored eye shadow to your eyelids. Experiment with smoky or bright colors for nighttime. Use an eyeliner pencil to draw a line as close to your eyelashes as possible. If you're a beginner at using eyeliner, purchase a stiff eyeliner brush and a dark eye shadow. Run the eyeliner brush over the eye shadow, then lightly sweep the brush across your lash lines. Eye shadow tends to be more forgiving of mistakes than pencil liner because it's not as precise. Apply a mascara in a lengthening or thickening formula to make your eyes appear their brightest.

    Lips

    • Keep your lips as neutral as possible. A bright lip color will draw attention to the lower part of your face and make your double chin more noticeable. Apply a moisturizing lip balm to get rid of any dry skin on your lips. Smooth on a lip gloss or lipstick that resembles your natural lip color. If you want to give your lips some definition, choose a lip liner that matches your lip color. Outline and fill in your lips with the pencil, then apply your lip color.
