When people think of Maine, they may think of lighthouses, scrumptious lobster and Stephen King novels. However, there is much to do in Maine including exciting winter sports. Maine is home to many a ski adventure. Maine's mountains offer everything from snowboarding parks, to vertical 2000-foot drops and some of the most challenging ski areas in New England. Wherever travelers go, they will find several places to suit their skiing desires. - Baker Mountain is located in Moscow, Maine and consists of five runs and a T-bar lift. It was founded by Allen Quimby Jr. in the 1930s. He put the first rope tow to bring skiers up the slope at Baker Mountain and by 1940s a second one was installed. A T Bar was installed in 1969 and the tows were removed. Volunteer pass holders run the slopes and during school breaks, a ski school is open for operation.
