How to Cite PowerPoint Slides
- 1). Launch Microsoft PowerPoint. Click the "File" tab and then click "Open." Navigate to the presentation to cite and double-click the name of the file. Scroll to the first slide to cite by using the mouse scroll or the "Page Down" key on the keyboard.
- 2). Click the "Insert" tab. Click the "Text Box" button on the ribbon. The cursor changes to an upside-down cross, confirming you are in drawing mode.
- 3). Draw a small text box to the upper-right of the last character in the sentence, phrase or bullet you wish to cite. Type a "1" without the quotation marks. If necessary, click the corner of the box and drag it into place. Resize the "1" by highlighting it, clicking the "Home" tab and choosing a smaller size from the "Font size" drop-down menu.
- 4). Draw another text box stretching across the bottom of the slide. Type a "1" and then type the citation information, such as extra details you didn't want to include in the main portion of the slide.
- 5). Repeat the text-box drawing process to add a "2" to the next part of the slide and a corresponding "2" with text at the bottom of the slide. If multiple citations appear on a single slide, use the same text box at the bottom of the slide to type them.
- 6). Click to the right of the last character in a line of text to add an in-text citation. Type the open parenthesis symbol. Type the citation information, such as author last name and page number. Exact citation formatting will depend on the type of formatting you're following. Type a closed parenthesis symbol. Repeat to add additional citations inside main text boxes.
