Coping With Being Pregnant
Finding out you are pregnant is a fun & exciting time, but it is certainly not without its stresses.
For first time mummies it's often the worry of what's to come and not being able to control it that is the hardest part, for people with children already and finding out you are pregnant, it can be trying to juggle your parental responsibilities.
Preparation is really the key to cope with stress and there are a few things you can do to help.
Remember that although 9 months is a long time this will soon fly by and before you know it, your due date is approaching.
If you get to the end of your pregnancy and you are unprepared you are going to panic & feel even more stressed.
Try to buy a little something for your baby each week, this will not only mean you are well prepared but will mean that you will have less to worry and less of the financial worries in the later stages of pregnancy.
It is normally the later stages that can be difficult, as your stomach expands, even the small things like doing your shoes up can be hard and you may feel like everything becomes a struggle.
This may sound silly but make sure you get some slip on type shoes, it really does help! Remember that pregnancy causes hormones to release into your body, this means that the things you would normally laugh about, you may find causing you stress and if you are finding yourself crying at every silly thing like a bird flying over your head - no you are not going crazy but certainly your hormones are! Many find that gentle exercise such as yoga or Pilates can help and many places offer specific classes of yoga for those that are pregnant.
Massages from registered therapists are also a great way to relax, certainly treat yourself to a leg and foot massage to reduce some of that swelling.
Pregnancy is a fun, emotional, stressful experience and you do not want to feel you are alone.
A problem shared is a problem halved, so if you are worried or have concerns, talk to a family member, friend or your health visitor.
More importantly, try to enjoy every moment of being pregnant, you are bringing something precious into the world, which will naturally be an overwhelming experience.
They grow up quick, so try to cherish every moment.
