How to Add an AutoCorrect File That Is on a Disk to Word Start Up

    • 1). Insert the disk or CD with the AutoCorrect (dictionary) file.

    • 2). Right-click the Windows "Start" button and open Windows Explorer. Navigate to the dictionary file on the disk or CD.

    • 3). Right-click on the AutoCorrect (.dic) file and then click "Copy" from the context menu.

    • 4). Navigate to the following path in Windows Explorer where "user name" is your user Windows user name.

      C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof

    • 5). Right-click inside the "Proof" folder and select "Paste." The dictionary file is copied to the correct location in Word.

    • 6). Open the Microsoft Word program.

    • 7). Click the "File" tab on the top navigation bar, and then click "Options."

    • 8). Click the "Proofing" option and then click "Custom Dictionaries." A list of custom dictionaries appears. The dictionary you just copied to the Proofing folder is in the list.

    • 9). Check the check box in front of the new dictionary and click "OK." The custom dictionary is now enabled in Microsoft Word.
