    Leaky Plumbing

    • 1). Turn on the water and locate the compression nut that has water leaking from it. Use a flashlight, if necessary, as the leak can be on the backside of the nut facing away from you. Leaks can be difficult to locate since the PVC pipe is white and the water is clear.

    • 2). Loosen the plastic compression nut with your hands. If necessary, use a pipe wrench to loosen the nut. Pull the pipes apart at the coupler.

    • 3). Slide the clear plastic compression nut o-ring off the pipe and wipe the pipe clean with a rag.

    • 4). Slide the new compression nut o-ring onto the pipe and thread the compression nut onto the pipe. Tighten it 1/4 turn with the pipe wrench.

    • 5). Turn on the water and check for leaking. If you still see leaks, tighten the compression nut until the leak stops.

    Leaky Basket

    • 1). Loosen the compression nut that secures the drain extension to the basket downpipe, then pull the extension off the downpipe.

    • 2). Loosen the retaining nut that secures the basket to the bottom of the basin using a pipe wrench.

    • 3). Strike the bottom of the basket with the pipe wrench to break the seal between the basin and the basket.

    • 4). Scrape the old plumber's putty from the basin with a wire brush.

    • 5). Apply a bead of plumber's putty around the hole in the basin and place the new basket into the hole. Thread the retaining nut in place and tighten it with the pipe wrench. Wipe off the excess plumber's putty with a wet rag.

    • 6). Slide the extension pipe onto the basket pipe and tighten the compression nut. Wait 24 hours before you use the drain to give the plumber's putty time to dry.
