- 3). Add some underwater plants and floating plants to your large pond.These types of plants remove the nutrients that algae needs to survive, which reduces algae growth. In addition, floating plants block sunlight, which algae also needs to grow.
- 4). Install a biological filter into your large pond. This type of filter should be able to handle the capacity of your pond, meaning it can pump through half the pond's volume.
- 5). Control algae by using biological treatments, which are added to the pond's water much like chemicals are added to a pool. These treatments will reduce algae while improving the health of your pond.
- 6). Avoid overfeeding any fish that are present in your pond. The nutrients in the food will feed algae along with your fish.
