It"s Think And Create An Upward Growth Spiral Of Your Own Design

After he finished a little construction and painting job at my place, I sat down with the painter, a young immigrant from Honduras-an illegal. We chitchatted a little bit, and he told me a little bit of his history...and I want to tell you, too.

Why am I using him instead of American labor? Well, three very good points: #1, he works and his work is good, #2, he's available, and #3, he hasn't priced himself out of the market like a GM laborer has.

So he's here. And you know, he knows I'm into wealth philosophy. He doesn't quite understand it, but I see these same attitudes coming through in his story. Rich is different to everybody.

You know, they say, for instance, "I don't mind immigrants, I just want 'em to enter legally". Well, look, there is no legal route for these people. That's the whole issue. They could make it legal, but it isn't. If a person is rich, and willing to invest heavily in the U.S., well, they can get in. If a person marries - which is a route available to young, attractive girls, they can get in. But the others, of course, they can't afford it, and marriage is not going to happen.

And so therefore, they make the life that the immigrants have here even worse. They force them into the low labor underground economy.

Maybe that's political. Maybe that's what Washington wants, I don't know. I know there's a lot of rhetoric and emotion on both sides.

But here's what he told me. Sounds like he's been here about four years... I've only known him for two years. He was always doing painting and construction in that time. He said, "Yeah, when I first got here, for the first year I washed dishes." Of course, cash only. "And then I got another dishwashing job. And then I had two jobs..." Ah, his income's going up.

He was doing the only thing he could. But he had and has a vision. Then he got into construction. He's showing up, pounding nails, putting on a few shingle patches here, building walls there, doing sheetrock, painting, cleaning up, moving-you know, that kind of stuff.

And now he came over yesterday, and he's very proud. Now he has his own painting business. And he's contracting jobs, making a lot more money than he was working. He has his dignity and his respect. And he sees himself growing, and employing others, and having tools.

Do you see what he's done? The same things. We talk about think and grow rich. It's think and create your life by design consciously, through progress. Think and create an upward growth spiral of your own design. That's what's growing rich is.
