Sugarland - "Want To"
Sugarland - "Want To"
I'm sure the members of Sugarland were wondering if they would always be a bridesmaid and never a bride. The illustrious No. 1 was within their grasp twice before this year, but both times their songs peaked at No. 2, and dropped. With the first single, "Want To," from their sophomore album, Enjoy the Ride, the now duo (after bandmember Kristian Hall decided to leave the band to pursue songwriting full time) finally struck pay dirt, and rode to the top for the final two weeks of 2006.
Not only that, but the album also sold over 1,000,000 copies, giving the band their second Platinum disc.
Steve Holy - "Brand New Girlfriend"
"Brand New Girlfriend" was Steve Holy's second No. 1 song, and as much as I heard it played on the radio, it actually only stayed at No. 1 for one week. His first No. 1 was "Good Morning Beautiful," which topped the charts for five weeks, and was featured in the Jennifer Lopez motion picture Angel Eyes. Steve's album of the same name debuted at No. 2 on the charts.
Heartland - "I Loved Her First"
Heartland came out of nowhere with a single, "I Loved Her First," that touched the hearts of nearly everyone that heard it. It's no wonder that the song went all the way to the top of the charts, where it stayed for one week. The album of the same name debuted at No. 3 on the charts. With this No. 1 song, the group also gave their record label, Lofton Creek Records their first No. 1 as well.
Billy Currington - "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right"
Billy Currington saw his first No. 1 single in 2006, with "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right" from the album Doin' Somethin' Right The song stayed at the top of the charts for one week.
Jack Ingram scored his first No. 1 single in 2006 with "Wherever You Are" from his Live: Wherever You Are album. The song was also the first No. 1 for his new record label, Big Machine. Jack has had a lengthy career, mostly in Texas, releasing over ten albums since 1995.
In 2005, Jason Aldean scored a Top 10 hit with his debut single, "Hicktown" in 2005, but in 2006, he took "Why" to the top of the charts, where it stayed for one week. He celebrated his Number One record with fans during CMA Music Festival. The song is from his self-titled debut album.
