In the summer of 2009, shortly before going onstage at the Paris' Rock en Seine festival, a violent fight broke out between brothers and band members Noel and Liam Gallagher. The altercation was so severe that shortly thereafter, famed musician Noel Gallagher permanently departed from their hit band Oasis, claiming, "I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

Just three months after the split, the remaining band members, namely lead singer Liam Gallagher, guitarist Gem Archer, and bassist Andy Bell, moved quickly to form Beady Eye, a new band with a new sound that the band members described as "British alternative rock." Now without their previous lead guitarist and songwriter, the band began to alter the way they made their music, adding musicians Chris Sharrock, Jeff Wootton, and Matt Jones to the lineup of original band members.

In the new lineup, Gallagher remains on lead vocals, with Archer on guitar, backing vocals, piano, and bass, Wootten on backup bass guitar and Matt Jones on keyboard. Former Oasis bassist Bell, will trade in his bass for a guitar. The fall of 2010, the band entered London RAK studios to record their new album, produced by Steve Lillywhite. While Gallagher admits that he has never made an album without his brother, he believes the band will succeed because the music is, "in our DNA now." Before their official debut, the group admitted there was some struggle over what to call the new band after the breakup of the first, but in 2010 they settled on the name Beady Eye, permanently distancing them from Oasis.

Although their debut album, "Different Gear, Still Speeding" is not set to debut until the twenty-eighth of February 2011, the band has already released three singles. The first two, released in 2010, were entitled "Bring the Light," Four Letter Word," and did respectively well in the British Charts, with party anthem "Bring the Light" peaking at number sixty-one, and ballad "Four Letter Word" capping at number one hundred and fourteen. In 2011, they released their third single "The Roller," which peaked at number thirty-one on the British pop charts, and effectively eclipsing the previous two singles. The album also anticipates an American release, set to debut the first of March under the American Indie Label Dangerbird Records. Despite standing in the shadow their former band, Gallagher maintains belief that they will outshine the success of Oasis, because, "the idea of sitting at home, not making music, just makes me want to throw up."
