Twitter has become so important to us these days in terms of how we get our news and how we communicate with large audiences from all over the world.

Although Twitter is best known for its 140-character text posts, the microblogging platform has actually become a top source for showing people other multimedia like pictures, GIFs and video.

There are several ways to share a photo on Twitter, but we’ll show you the simplest way.

to do it.

Find the “Compose new tweet” Button

First, you obviously need to have a Twitter account set up in order to share a photo on Twitter. If you haven’t already, you can sign up for free at Twitter.com.

If you’re a beginner using Twitter, you may or may not have signed up already to use a Twitter application like HootSuite or TweetDeck. These steps will only show you how to post a photo to Twitter through Twitter.com via web, meaning through your Internet browser.

So, head on over to Twitter.com using your favorite web browser and look for the blue button with the feather on it located on the top right corner. Press it to have the tweet box show.

Find the Camera Icon

Now you should see another box pop up right over your Twitter page. It should say “What’s happening?” at the top with an area to type your tweet.

Since you’re posting a photo, you need to do more than just type in a 140-character long message.

If you look at the bottom of the box in the lower left corner, you should see a grey, faded icon resembling a little camera. Press that icon.

Upload Your Photo

Pressing the little camera button will prompt your computer to display an upload box displaying the files that are on your computer.

You need to have a photo saved somewhere on your computer to share it this way on Twitter. Choose the photo file from your computer and hit “Open” or “Select.”

To avoid any trouble with uploading the photo, make sure the size of it is not extremely large and choose a compatible image like JPEG, PNG or GIF.

Add Some Text

Once Twitter has grabbed your photo before uploading it, you should see a thumbnail of your image displayed at the bottom of the tweet box. Beside it should say, “Image will appear as link.”

This means that your tweet will automatically include a short link that looks something like “http://pic.twitter.com/123ABC.” People will be taken to a separate page to view your photo when they click on that link.

Instead of just simply tweeting the link, it’s a good idea to add some text to your tweet, which displays right before the link. Notice that the tweet box will show you how many characters you have left when it incorporates the photo link’s character count into the 140-character tweet limit.

Once you’re happy with the photo chosen and textual tweet message, you can press the “Tweet” button to send it out to Twitter for your followers to see.

Twitter only recently added a built-in photo uploader recently. Before you could do it this way, most people used a third party service called TwitPic.com to tweet their photos. It still exists today, but a ton of their audience has been taken away now that Twitter has its own way to share to share photos.

There are two ways you can view the photo you just tweeted. Obviously, the first way would be to simply click on the link that was included in the tweet. A new tab in your browser should open displaying your image.

But if you just want a quick peek at the photo, there’s a way to just open it quickly right within your Twitter stream. Simply find the option found directly below the tweet that says “View photo.”

Click it to see the tweet slide open right in your stream to display your photo. Once you’re done looking at it, you can find the option that says “Hide photo” to make it collapse back to normal.
