Plane Flying Games
- Microsoft Flight Simulator first went into production in the 1970s and emerged as both a video game and a way to understand how planes work. Multiple versions of the game have been released, with the most recent being Microsoft Flight Simulator X, as of 2011. You have the option of picking which type of plane you will fly and traveling to any destination on the globe in a realistic manner. You can also take part in missions that give you objectives to achieve around the world.
- The X-Plane franchise is another type of flight simulator. You can select between commercial planes or those designed for combat. You can navigate the world and stop at models of real life airports. While flying, you are challenged with real problems such as strong winds and inclement weather. The effects of these challenges depend on what kind of plane you are flying. You can also edit planes to change their characteristics and try flying them in different ways.
- The Airport Tycoon series lets you create an entire airport and have control over just about everything that goes on. You can change the prices you charge customers, negotiate with businesses about advertising and make your facilities better for your employees. In addition to running the airport as a business, you get to create your own planes and watch them in action as they travel to specified destinations.
- A number of flight combat games have also been released for PC and console gamers. The Blazing Angels series takes place during World War II and lets you participate in missions. The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces game is about a futuristic war in which pilots must fight to put an end to a commercially-started war. Lock On: Modern Air Combat does not specify a time it place. It allows you to select from among different combat planes and take to the air against friends playing with you or computer characters.
