How to Install Floor Epoxy
- 1). Loosen any debris on the surface of the concrete with the edge of a shovel. Sweep off the debris with a push broom.
- 2). Mix the concrete cleaner and water in a bucket according to the directions on the cleaner. Wash the floor with the cleaning solution by scrubbing it with a power scrubber. Use a hand brush in corners and along the wall. If your floor is outside, hose it down with a garden hose. Otherwise rinse it with a sponge mop and bucket of clear water.
- 3). Make a solution of muriatic acid and water, with ten parts water and one part muriatic acid. Scrub the floor with the power scrubber this solution. Be cautious when using muriatic acid; be sure to wear rubber gloves and boots.
- 4). Rinse the floor a few times with clear water from a hose, or with a sponge mop and bucket of water. Rinse the pads on the power scrubber and scrub the floor again with water. Rinse the floor two or three more times. Let the floor completely dry before proceeding.
- 5). Tape the bottom of the walls, baseboards and any trim along the floor to protect them from the epoxy paint.
- 6). Stir the epoxy paint with the paint stick while pouring in the hardener. Stir for a full three minutes so the mixture is fully blended. Let it sit for 30 minutes so the chemicals can react. After this time it must be used within two hours.
- 7). Pour the paint into a paint pan and use a paintbrush to paint the edges and corners of the floor. Use the roller to paint the remainder of the floor, painting a ten-by-ten foot section at a time. After rolling in one direction, roll in a perpendicular direction over the same section so roller marks disappear. Complete painting the floor in this manner.
