    • 1). Place the Echo Weed Whacker on a flat, level surface. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.

    • 2). Hold the round cutting head of the Echo trimmer with one hand. Grasp the bump knob on the inner spool with your other hand. Turn the spool to the right to loosen. Pull the spool from the cutting head.

    • 3). Remove any old line remaining on the spool and discard properly. Cut a 20-foot length of .095 inch diameter trimmer line from a filler spool, using scissors.

    • 4). Thread one end of the trimmer line through the plastic hole on the inside of the trimmer spool. Pull the line until the ends are even. Adjust the line on the spool so that one end is 6 inches shorter than the other.

    • 5). Hold the lines together and wrap them around the spool in the direction indicated by the arrow on the spool. Leave 6 inches of both line ends extending from the spool.

    • 6). Clip the 6-inch ends extending from the spool into the retaining clips on the side of the spool. Insert one line end into each clip.

    • 7). Feed the ends of the line through the holes in the cutting head. Push the spool into the cutting head and turn to the left to lock it in place. Pull the trimmer line ends to free them from the clips to prepare the trimmer for use.
