How to Start a Youth Outreach Ministry
- 1). Pray and ask God for guidance that you will keep the group focused on Him for His glory. Gather a core team that includes parents and volunteers who have a heart for the youth and care about their future. Glean from their wisdom and solicit their guidance during formation of the ministry.
- 2). Work with your core team to develop a vision for the ministry. Decide why you are starting the group, your target audience, and determine where you want the group to be in one, five, and 10 years. Modify this vision as necessary to keep the ministry alive and relevant.
- 3). Determine how you wish to accomplish your goals and meet the vision of the group. Consider how to address the needs of your target group, how to keep them engaged in the group, and how you can most effectively communicate with them.
- 4). Meet with your church leadership to ensure your goal and vision is understood and accepted by each one. Answer questions appropriately. Meet with the church members to discuss your plans. Expect that some people will not be supportive, but generally most people will accept your plan and be encouraging.
- 5). Determine when you wish to launch your ministry. Have enough goals to be flexible in the timing of some, yet keep a few areas that are not changeable.
Review your goals and strategy every six months or so. Be prepared to make changes in order to keep the youth focused if interest seems to wane. - 6). Pray throughout the planning states, initial meeting, and ongoing success of the ministry. Keep God's plan in mind and follow His direction for your ministry.
