Encouragement from the Most Reliable Source
We all have times when we need a shot of encouragement. One of the surest ways to get it is straight from God's Word. Bound within your Bible are thousands of time tested scriptures that are as powerful and reliable today as they were the day they were written.
If you are feeling low, take heart as you pick up your Bible, or call to memory a great scripture, and know that many men and women of faith before you have stood on those same verses.
Sometimes, when your faith is being tested or you are seriously buffeted with discouragement, it can really help to have a little arsenal of scripture on hand. Below are a few verses that you can pull out on days when you need that encouragement. You can revel in them on days when you're flying high, and fly a little higher. You can share them with a friend who needs a boost. You can claim them in prayer for yourself or others. The more you use them, the more powerful they will become to you, and the deeper the meaning will be.
If you are feeling afraid or intimidated: (Isaiah 41:10 NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
For when you're buffeted and struggle with temptation: (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV) No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
When you need strength: (Psalms 55:22 NIV)Â Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
When you need protection or deliverance: (Psalms 9:9-10 NIV) The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
When you feel overwhelmed: (Matthew 11:28-29 NIV)Â Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
When you need comfort: (John 14:27 NIV)Â Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
When you are not sure what to do: (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
