    Removing the Mold

    • 1). Remove any cigars from the humidor. If any are infested with mold, place those cigars to the side or dispose of them in a trash bag if you don't want to clean the mold off them as well.

    • 2). Sand the mold from the humidor's surfaces with a piece of 150-grit sandpaper. Wear latex gloves and a nose mask for protection.

    • 3). Use a hair dryer set to "low" to blow the mold debris to one side of the humidor.

    • 4). Pick up the debris with a rag or cloth and place in a trash bag. Wipe the walls of the humidor down with the rag or cloth to remove any loose debris. Place the rag or cloth in the trash bag.

Mixing & Using a Cleaning Solution

    • 1). Fill a bucket with ½ gallon of polyglycol, found at chemical supply stores, or isopropyl alcohol and ½ gallon of distilled water.

    • 2). Dip a clean rag or cloth in the bucket of polyglycol or isopropyl alcohol solution. Stir the solution with the rag or cloth. Wring out excess solution.

    • 3). Wipe the walls of your humidor with the polyglycol or isopropyl alcohol solution-soaked rag or cloth.

    • 4). Re-dip the rag or cloth and continue wiping the humidor until all the mold is gone.

    Final Seal & Cleaning

    • 1). Check for and seal any cracks and openings with caulking. Repair any loose hinges and other problems you find. Do not proceed to the next step until you locate the problem that cause mold to grow in your humidor.

    • 2). Wipe the mold off the cigars with a soft, nonabrasive cloth or towel. Place the mold in a trash bag.

    • 3). Wipe the cigars in a piece of paper towel. Leave them out of your humidor for 36 hours at room temperature.

    • 4). Check the clean cigars to see if any mold is present. If mold is still present, clean off the mold and place the cigars in a plastic container that has a lid. Place the container in your refrigerator's freezer for four days.

    • 5). Place your cigars back in the humidor. For mold-infested cigars you placed in the freezer, place the cigars in your refrigerator for one day before placing them in your humidor.
