Bahama Breeze
About.com Rating
Bahama Breeze, located in the eastern Cleveland suburb of Orange, is part of a nationwide chain. The up-beat eatery serves Caribbean cuisine with speciality drinks, lilting music, and lots of fun. It's one of my favorites.
The Food at Bahama Breeze
Bahama Breeze specializes in Caribbean cuisine -- an American version, with plenty of familiar items, yet plenty of spice. Some of the best dishes are the appetizers, which include fire-roasted jerk shrimp (click at right to see a picture), a generous portion that comes with a demi-baquette with which to sop up the garlic butter in the dish; creamy goat cheese stuffed into roasted red peppers (pictured below), one of the best vegetarian (but not vegan) dishes in town; and firey hot Habennero chicken wings.
Entrees include burgers (surprisingly one of the best in Cleveland), pastas, including angel hair with shrimp; seafood and fish dishes, including a spicy traditional paella and grilled fresh fish (selection changes daily). Other sandwiches include a popular Cuban sandwich that includes pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and pickles on hot Cuban bread and a sun-drenched portobello and vegetable sandwich with pepper jack cheese. Hot sauce lovers will appreciate the caddy of six international hot sauces that accompany the food. I've had probably half of the menu items and have never been disappointed.
The Bar Menu
What Caribbean meal would be complete without a fanciful tropical cocktail? Even in the middle of winter, a fruity island drink has a way of warming the atmosphere. Favorites at Bahama Breeze include the Bahama Mama (picture at left), a favorful concoction of orange and pineapple juice combined with banana liqueur and two kinds of rum; the "Bahamarita," the restaurant's signature drink, which is a traditional margarita enhanced with kiwi, mango, and strawberry ices; and a mojito cubano made with fresh mint.
Beer lovers will enjoy the house brand, Aruba Red, as well as a dozen or more imported favorites. For a non-alcoholic option, there is a refreshing, house-made lemonade.
A Fun, Island Atmosphere
Walking into Bahama Breeze is like taking a trip to the islands. Steel drum music fills the room and the high-ceiled Caribbean architecture is soothing and relaxing. The bar filled with center of the restaurant, with cozy smaller rooms branching off from it. During the warmer months, an octagonal gazebo bar is the place to relax. Screens let the summer breezes in and a center fire pit warms the room in the spring and fall.
Service at Bahama Breeze is friendly and efficient, without being too friendly. The eatery serves until midnight during the week and 1am on the weekends, making it an ideal spot from after event dining.
